The ship was subsequently detained.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight:400;\">Sea-Watch welcomes the court’s decision as the latest in a series of successful legal challenges to blockades imposed under the so-called Piantedosi decree, which requires rescue crews to comply with Italian authorities’ instructions to communicate with the so-called Libyan coastguard during rescue operations. Since 2023, Italian authorities have detained civilian rescue vessels more than 40 times, costing over 900 operational days. The detention of the Sea-Watch 5 was the eighth such measure imposed in 2026 alone.
